Tech Tool Review: KidLit TV

Hello! This week we will be diving into the tech tool of KidLit TV. This is a free online resource that is full of videos, activities, and creative content designed to spark a love of reading in kids. The website is designed for students in kindergarten through middle school. KidLit TV is built around the idea that storytelling should be fun, interactive, and accessible. The site offers a mix of read alouds, author/illustrator interviews, drawing tutorials, craft ideas, and book trailers; basically, everything a young reader or budding creator might enjoy. What I love about KidLit TV is how everything on the platform feels joyful and engaging. It’s a fantastic tool for classrooms and libraries looking to boost reading motivation and celebrate creativity. Since it’s completely free and accessible online, it’s easy to bring into just about any learning space, whether it is in person or remote.

In the school library, I can see KidLit TV being used during story time, as part of an author study or as a learning center. You could set up a viewing station with headphones, rotate featured authors or illustrators each week, or let students follow along with drawing tutorials and create their own picture books. The site also includes book trailers and themed playlists, which are great for helping students discover new titles. In the classroom, teachers might use KidLit TV to introduce a featured author or build background knowledge before reading a new book. It’s also a great option for sub plans, early finishers, or any time you want students to connect with literature in a fun and different way. The videos are high quality, kid friendly, and curated with educators in mind, which makes planning even easier.

Overall, KidLit TV is a wonderful blend of entertainment and education. It supports literacy in creative ways and helps students see books as something to explore. Whether you’re looking to add variety to your read aloud routine or give kids a chance to hear from the creators behind their favorite stories, this platform is a valuable and easy to use resource for both libraries and classrooms.
